it is hard to say if I am experiencing the same, as all bikes will tend to backfire/pop after we get into the rev's and then backoff the throttle suddenly. Those who have replaced the can and or added a high flow air filter will probably experience it more that those who still have a stock bike. And as for hard starts - how long have you had it? Mine is all of 3 weeks old and did turn over too long when I first bought it but that was easily solved by putting a full charge on the battery. Most dealers do not take the time to fully charge the battery and it will take more cranking to lite it up.
interesting. this is the only second bike i've ever purchased new and like yours, the bike is only 3-4 weeks old. my sv, never gave me any troubles w/starts. the backfiring also seems a little weird to me. i guess i'll bring it into the shop and see if they can explain/diagnose the issue, if there is any at all.
I have found that my bike will give that backfire sound once i drop the throttle at a higher RPM, but to be honest thats a sound i love, not one i want to fix.
As for hard starts, i have found that quite often my bike will take 3-4 times to start.
To be more detailed, it turns over but then dies, turns over then dies etc..once started though i have no issues. I will be looking into getting this fixed..
I've noticed that when mine is cold in the morning, I hit the start button 5 or 6 times before it finally catches and starts. I'm not sure if I need to hold the button longer or if the injection system is still programming itself. Once I have it started, I can stop and it'll start as soon as the button is pushed... ???? I'm in Florida so it's never really cold here... This really the only issue so far. I've only had the bike 3 days and 33 miles. Had to run all the other bikes to insure they would run after playing with the FZ for the rest of this week... Any Thoughts are appreciated..
I found that if I let the "startup process" cycle through, the bike is very hard to start. However, if I hit the start button immediately after turning on the key, the bike is much more likely to start right off.
I talked with the service reps yesterday, I'm sure they know exactly what's wrong but they want to make money. I told them they'd see the bike when it had 600 miles on it. They're gonna rip me on that visit for lots of money anyway. Besides, they want to keep the bike there to troubleshoot it. I want it pretty well broken in before Tom, Dick and Harry get their hands on it..
so i'm experiencing hard starts at times and backfiring when the revs go up. bike is stock. is anyone experiencing the same?
thanks
The stock AIS (air injection system) will cause our bikes to backfire. It injects air into the exhaust system, (during closed throttle applications) just past the exhaust valves, in hope of burning excess fuel and running cleaner. An EZ fix for this is to disconnect the solenoid and plug the inlet hose, which is inside your air box, to disable the system, without any drivability or performance issues. This will do the same thing as the "Graves smog plates" without any cost.
As for the Hard starts, I noticed after about the first 6 starts, I no longer had any prob with that. Try the link for more details. Smog Plates - Yamaha FZ8 Forums - International FZ8 Motorcycle Community Forum
