FZ8 Modifications by Cycle World

The February 2012 issue of Cycle World contains a two page article on FZ8 modifications. Some of the key performance mods are:
Ohlins YA 009 shock ($617)
Race Tech modified forks ($455)
Bridgestone BT-016 Pro tire 120/70ZR17 front ($179)
Bridgestone BT-016 Pro tire 180/55ZR17 rear ($240)
LeoVince stainless steel slip-on muffler ($399)
LeoVince FAST II injection/ignition modules ($499)
They say over 1200 miles, gasoline consumption improved from 39 mpg to 43 mpg. Also they say the muffler is 7.5 pounds lighter than stock, and power increased from 96 hp to 97.6 hp.

I read that article, it's cool to see a mag paying a little attention the the fz8! They put alot of time & $ into the suspension, with good results. But my question is, does the forks & shocks really need that much work on these bikes (for steet riding)? Because I'm 150 lbs. And have no issue with the FZ's suspension.

great article. IMO the suspension doesn't really need that kind of time or money spent on it. the FZ8 is an all around bike. suspension upgrades are for folks who hit the twisties really hard or are track minded. i bought a wrecked R6 for my track bike for a reason. it was dirt cheap, i could fix it cheap and it didn't need many upgrades for what i wanted it for. FZ8 is my daily driver and occasional road trip bike. because of those reasons i want it to look good, and be very comfortable. i have taken it to the track once and it was fine. i rode level two with it. usually i ride level two but i have been known to venture into level 3 at some ridesmart and lonestar trackdays. unless you just have the extra money or a very hard on the bike then you should be fine.

Mental stability notwithstanding, what differentiates the road racer from his "short track" kin does lay somewhere between the ears!!
